Hello fellow CGN's , I made an impulse by a while ago and bought a very nice Mosin Nagant 91/30 right form a crate .

I took it home and put in the safe , still soaked in cosmo .

well I decide to have a closer look at it yesterday and discovered it is a 1925 , bow and arrow > Izhevsk stamp , Hammer & Sickle stamped over Eagle on hex Receiver ,
all matching numbers and No Refurbishment mark on the Barrel shank ( square box with a line in the middle )

WR has the same one but with the Refurbishment mark on the Barrel shank in the collectable section.

I was wondering if mine too is a collectable and I should not clean and shoot it .

I have limited storage space so having a safe queen vs a shooter is an issue .

Maybe this one belongs in someone's collection ???

Any thoughts on my problem ??

here's some pic of my 1925 Mosin Nagant 91/30

a 1925 , all matching numbers Bolt , mag , receiver , no elector pencil , no referb marks I can see anywhere + bayo and kit , perfect stock no scratched , nicks , dents , a few spoys has the varnish has crinkled or wrinkled I guess being 90 years old it's understandable .

Thanks for have a look .

I'm not sure if I'd shoot it or not, but yours is a nice looking example of a hex Mosin, with nicer wood than most come with. There were about 30 million 91/30's made so they are not really rare, but you do have a clean one.

Congrats on your purchase... she looks purdy !!

Spend some time on http://7.62x54r.net/ to see what you've got. As they say "When rarity can range from hundreds of pieces made to millions and value can range from less than $100 to over $500 proper identification is extremely important."

Cheers !!

Looks like a correct prewar stock based on the escutcheons.

Remove the action from the stock and check the year stamp on the tang.

I bought a couple of 91/30s over the Holidays at Canadian Tire . a 1927 , and a 1933.....all matching numbers with Hex receivers and perfect condition , they were 178 bucks each . Not really collectable that I am aware of , but the Hex receivers seem to be drying up some . One is a Izzy , and the other is a Romanian......

I have a few 1920 91/30s and shoot them all. Still determining which is most accurate/best shooting/best cycling. I tend to shoot my carbines more though honestly.

I would say that a 1925 in a pre-war stock is one of the more desirable 91/30s. I'm sure there is a collector out there looking for it. If you just want a shooter maybe sell her to a new home.

OP, you need to post more quality pictures of the stock including cartouches , receiver, bolt, matching numbers. In the best case it is 1925 made Dragoon made from recycled Imperial receiver and at some point of its life reworked into 91/30 configuration and magically saved from post war refurbishing. However it's unlikely. Basically the only question if it was refurbished after two reworks.

Thank you all for the Great info !!

I wiped down the rifle and found some stamps , not the best pic's , on the stock there appears to be a " T " near the but and a group of 3 round stamps in the stock , onelooks like a " H " ,,, "Y " ... Not sure but they are the same size and there is a faint Larger round stamp in the stock . I have put all them below , any info on what they tell about this rifle , I would really like to know .

many thanks to all my fellow CGN's for helping me out .

....

Lucky to find a pre-war stock that has seen so little sanding.

It's a post-war rebuild, most of the parts are post-1928 Izhevsk parts which don't belong on a 1925 receiver, typical refurb but nice none the less.

Yep, it's clearly several times rebuilt and post war refurbished rifle with mix of parts from different periods. But it looks "correct" so enjoy both look and shooting.

Romania didn't use mosin until after ww2. You have an Izhevsk.

Thanks to all my fellow CGNers , I really enjoy learning the history of my rifles , I guess this one has seen a lot , just wish it could talk .

It might not be a collectable but I think she special anyway .

Many thanks to all !!!!

You have a nice piece of history in great shape.....just think of all the places that rifle has been....Shoot it , and Enjoy it....

Thank you I will !!

I'll be sure to take great care in not removing all the stamping on the stock as it tells it's history .

I presume a lot of the referbs have been heavily sanded removing all the stampings which tell there true history .

I guess it missed one refit where the square with the center line was applies as mine does not have this referb mark.

I'll give a shooting report this spring when things warm up .

Again thanks to all for the interest and information .

Now it's time to save my pennies for a STV 40 .................................

Thank you !

As it is a referb and not a collectable but a shooter , she is presently undergoing another referb down in the gun room .

I will post some pics when completed on this thread .
