Has Mossberg ever changed the dimensions of their wood stocks? I ask because I need a replacement recoil pad for an older mossberg 500 wood stock and was wondering if a replacement for a new mossberg stock would fit. I measured the end of the stock that I have and it's 4 7/8 inches high and 1 5/8 inches wide.

If you go to limbsaver website they have templates you can download and print to see what would fit or you could take the butt to the gunstore and try some pads as
well. Grinding a recoil pad is not super difficult but without the correct tools ( a belt or disc sander) it is very time consumong and many folks pooch the first pad they do. Check with a local gunsmith to see what he charges if you need a pad fitted.

They did change the dimension. Even if you go to a local store, on the back of the packaging it will give you a brief chart of fits. It will also highlight what other models that pad fits in yellow. The pad you are looking for will say it's for 4-7/8 models.
