Been looking for a rear sling mount for a P14 I have. Would it be just plain wrong to use one from a Enfield? I sourced a front as well as a stacking swivel for the rebuild, but cant find a rear one. Will I be shunned and cussed by society? Tarred and feathered? Should I try the EE instead?

Not precisely sure which part you are meaning - the sling loop part is offset on the P14 - I think it was also offset on the No. 1 but was "centered" on the No. 4. A carry over from the volley sight days - wanted the sling to hang to the right of centre of the rifle. As far as the base and attaching screws, other than markings, not certain how to tell them apart. One with the British Broad arrow stamp clearly showing does not belong on a P14, but, so far, I have only seen P14 ones with their "correct" makers mark on the side against the wood - no marks visible when the parts are assembled to the rifle. Is that what you are asking??

Yup the rear sling mount, screws, center screw, and sling loop. The whole shebang. I cant find the rear assembly anywhere. I have a repro stock coming and only missing those parts to finish it when I get a chance to start on it.

Hi IceH. Yes - the SMLE Butt swivel bracket and swivel are identical in pattern to the P-14. Just find one
without any evident markings like a broad arrow. I wouldn't cuss you out for the replacement. JOHN

A few years ago I was trying to sort out some parts - picture show three, that are not the same. The one on left has a "centered" loop and the tapered holes for the attachment screws are bigger than the other two - so I am pretty sure that is for a No. 4 rifle. Not much difference I could find on this side of the other two except the lower one on the right has what is likely a British Broad Arrow showing, so I was thinking that made it for a No. 1

The top one on the right had this "R" on the back - the other one (with the Broad Arrow on front) had nothing on back. I have another with an "E" back there - so, Remington and Eddystone. Without seeing an eagle head mark, I have no way to know if they were for a P14 or an M1917 - all three makers "E", "R" and "W" made both rifles and this part would be identical except for the inspection or acceptance marks.

Then the screws - I have pulled multiple "make do" variations from various sporters. The small screw that goes into the top of the butt plate is same size as the screws that hold the rear sling swivel base, but that butt screw has a flat face, and I am sure that the sling swivel screws had a rounded or domed head. All of them were flat ended - not pointy as we usually thing of wood screws - although I have removed a number of "normal" wood screws from various stocks - "making do", but not original or "correct". I have also seen combinations where the screw head was bigger diameter than the taper on the swivel base - I think those are screws from a No. 4 (or something) that were used on a No. 1 or P14/M1917 rear swivel base. All fussy little details, in some cases from more than 100 years ago. But they are easily visible - to some of us, might make the difference between a $2,000 rifle and a $600 rifle, since many more of these niggly little details can not easily be seen from a quick visual inspection. A so-called "all matching" P14 with a serial number that starts with "W" and an "E" on back side of that rear sling swivel, is NOT "all matching".

Interesting. Also the 2 on the right hand side have a "taper" on the lower mount to the outside where the screw goes. As well the screw hole isnt as deep and the left hand one has more of a "shoulder" to the outside where the screw goes and has a deeper screw hole.
