I bought a tube of pelgun oil last week. I was going to apply a couple of drops to lubricate the seal on an older rifle I have. I read the package and it says not for break barrel action rifles which kind of surprised me. I thought this oil was recommended for that. What does one use?

Crosman makes a silicone air chamber oil for that purpose, Ive used a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil in the past and there doesn't seem to be any harm done.

It would be bad to use normal oil in a chamber of an airgun. The problem is that the lube is flammable under the high pressure and temperature created so the gun will 'diesel' which is hard on the piston and seals. There is chamber oil mentioned above that should be used which does not burn and would be safe for the seals.

Pelgun oil is for pump up and co2 guns. Spring powered rifles need the silicone oil for their seals. For the pump and co2 guns air tool oil is excellent as is ATF, the red stuff. Never use petroleum based oils like 3 in 1. They will over time eat away at the seals of a c02 gun while ATF and the air tool oil will make them swell up and seal better. Watch out in the springers too. Anything petroleum based can detonate with heat and pressure or "diesel" in the compression chamber. This can and will ruin your spring power plant.
