Hello all, I have a 350 legend. I also have quickload and it doesn't have the 165gr FTX round. On the Hodgdon site they have the data for it. I wanted to play around with the loads. However I'm obviously doing something wrong.

If I look at the Hodgdon site I see the starting load with lilgun is 25.7gr giving about 35k PSI.

When I put what info I get from measuring the projectile, I put in the same COL, same weight, lilgun and charge and it shows the pressure waaaay high. I suspect this is somehow me doing something wrong with quickload. Anyone who has any advice would be appreciated.

hmm strange, does GRT happen to have the bullet already in the system?

I ask as what I'm thinking is that I've done something wrong. I've never entered a projectile information in. So for example is the red tip considered part of the OAL? the projectile is about the 0.953 when everything is there. If i take out the red tip of the projectile is about 0.844 which drops the pressure to 48818 psi, not over pressured any longer, but at the same time still pretty far away from the claimed 35k PSI that the hodgdon site claims the load would give.

QL will use the seating depth to determine case powder capacity and that will have a direct effect on calculated pressure. Don't worry about inputting col, but get the seat depth right.

Yep I understand, however if you look at the first post. I'm trying as a starting point to mirror Hodgdon's COL. If the COL is correct on the projectile, the COL of the full cartridge will determine the seating depth.

I understand what you're doing. I'm not sure which QL data was input by you and which was calculated by QL.

Is the bullet length 0.953" correct? If so the seating depth should be calculated correctly by QL. 0.408" seems needlessly deep for seating but might be normal for this bullet/cartridge - I have no experience with 350 legend.

I noticed the 165gr FTX is a boat tail, did you tick the box for boat tail and enter the BT taper dimensions in the pop-up? That will affect pressure somewhat but I doubt it would make as much difference to pressure as you are seeing.

If the bullet length is actually 0.953" and you entered the boat tail taper dimensions then you're doing everything right as far as I can see.

Correct. I measured it with some calipers, however below is a picture by a ruler to give you an idea of the size. As you can see it's just under an inch (0.953 from my measurement), I got about 0.844 if I don't measure the red tip. QL lets you play with any field. However once you put the bullet OAL and the COL it automatically figures out what seating depth is needed to make those numbers line up.

I did some googling and Hornady's factory ammo does appear that it's seating about half the bullet, you'll see from the factory loaded ammo picture below that it would suggest it seems about right. In terms of the boat tail. I didn't list it as a boat tail as it doesn't appear to be a boat tail from what I can see.

QL can calculate the seating depth OR you can enter it yourself. It works both ways. You're correct no bt on that bullet, i guess I looked at the wrong bullet when i googled it.

So again - if the seating depth is accurate then you are doing it right and the oal doesn't matter in the pressure calculation except for determining the seating depth.
