I am wanting to resize a bunch of 270 Win brass to 280 Rem. I have never gone this route before, but with the shortage of reloading supplies, and a bunch of 270 brass kicking around, I wanted to give it a try.

Can somebody who has resized these two particular cartridges give me some advice on what to look out for, as the shoulders are slightly different.

Thanks.

You need to expand the 270 neck to at least 30 cal and better still .311 so that when you size the case it will produce a small false shoulder which is required since the 280 has a shoulder some 50 thousandths longer than the 270 or 30-06. You need to fire form the case with a moderate load, then you are ready to use the case. All in all its easier and less expensive to just source some 280 brass and sell you excess 270 brass.

Not a problem to do what you are thinking.

hunter has given you the goods on creating a "false" shoulder first, then fireforming.
Personally, I like to take the 270 case out to 8mm first.

The good part about using 270 brass, is you get a proper length case right away.
Fireforming 30-06 brass gets one a shorter than normal case.

Regards, Dave.

It would be much easier to just sell your 270 brass, and resize 30-06 brass to 280. Buckets of it everywhere, and you can resize it to a crisp fit for perfect headspace in your rifle. From there it is just load up and go!

Necking 270 brass up and then back down for the new shoulder works, but is fraught with gremlins like uneven neck thickness and off-centre necks before firing. It is much easier to neck brass down than up.

Thanks, man. If I can't find some 280 brass, I will take your advice.
