Question on Stoeger Outback O/U

I bought a Stoeger Outback 20ga O/U, this is the short barreled version with sights and not a bead.

To fire the first barrel I must push the safety forward, then fire, for the second shot I have to push the safety forward again. Is this normal for this model to require the safety to be moved after the first shot?? It makes for tricker follow-up shots.
 
I don't have an outback but I have a condor. The recoil is supposed to reset the trigger for the next barrel. A way to test empty is to fire first barrel (with snap caps or fired shells in the chambers) give the but a sharp wrap with your hand, and pull the trigger again. You should hear the hammer fall. If not return for warranty or have a gunsmith look at it. What loads are you using? if really light loads try a heavier load ie 1 0z. Let us know what you find out.
 
I tried the test by hitting the butt and it worked, I was able to get both shots off.with empty shells of course. Also notice that after "firing" the action is stiffer to open and I'm forcing something to move. After I force it open it opens and closes freely after that. Could that be another issue?
 
No issue. You are recocking the hammers. Once the hammers are cocked and ready to go the next time you open there is less resistance. Have fun.
 
Hope you have fun with your shotgun. Just another thought. the light loads should reset your trigger, maybe you are reacting to the recoil by backing up your shoulder. Lean into the shot and give the shotgun a little resistance to the shot. If you are reacting softly to the shot maybe why they are not resetting. another option is remove the stock and clean all the action with break cleaner and relube. could just be dirty. let us know how you make out.
 
I also have a Condor, and found after a few boxes it did loosen up a bit. Pretty good gun for the price I find. Not sure about having to push the safety twice though... ?
 
The idea of putting the safety on and off again to switch to the next barrel is if you have a dud round in the first barrel,( thus no recoil to reset the trigger) you can manually reset to fire the second barrel. I don't know if unique to Stoger or not.
 
I've got a Condor and my brother had one for years. Mechanical triggers. Non auto safetys. I guess maby the older ones were like this?
