Question on the M16A1

1968-1969 US Property marked Colt M16A1. Why are the lowers so hard to find, and do they have any value (what would a lower be worth)?

In Canada? Worth very little, because no one can use them.

In the states, they are worth quite a bit, pre-86 receivers ahoy!

M16A1 Lowers are around. I have seen a few. Mostly beat to crap, with very little finish left on them. The Auto sear hole will be enlargened, or welded over, to prevent insertion of the sear. There are some registered examples in the system. They will demand a higher $$ because of the history, and because they are fairly scarce.

A receiver like this would be considered 12(2) or 12(3) prohibited, if it was registered. I saw a handful of these around prior to 1992, but I guess they were all exported or destroyed afterwards, because I haven't seen one since.
