Question - Polymer sanding

I have a CX4 Storm. One of my range trips, I ran the gun too hot and the polymer near the ejection port melted a little creating a noticeable bump.

My questions are as follows:

1) Should I sand/file it down?
2) How should I sand it to so it doesn't look unsightly?
3) After sanding do I need to do touch up painting?

EDIT if picture required I'll take one and post it after work when I get home.
 
If cosmetically it doesn't bother you, and it doesn't effect the functioning at all, then there's not reason not to just leave it alone.

If you decide to reduce or remove it your best bet is to use a very fine grit sand paper and work slow until it's gone or diminished.

You don't have to touch up paint necessarily. The plastic should have the same color throughout. You might just want to buff with a very fine compound to brighten the area back up or you can just leave as it.
 
I'd suggest using a fine cut new file instead of sandpaper. Plastic tends to fuzz up badly from sandpaper where a file leaves a smoother "cut" surface. You CAN sand the plastic back to a smooth surface but it takes time and lots of progressively finer paper grades down to something like 600 grit.

To ensure good cutting the file needs to be in very good or new condition. The old worn metal gouger in the drawer won't cut plastic worth a hoot. Also it should be a single cut smooth pattern file and not a double cut bastard pattern. And before you giggle and call me on bad language in metal working "bastard cut" is a valid style of metal file..... :D

As a recall the CX4 Storm plastic stock has a textured surface. Not much I can suggest on restoring that if you reshape the wart you got.
