I've looked at a number of websites for a buffer tube kit that has everything I need (tube, spring, buffer & end plate). I know I need a milspec one but all the sites I've looked at so far seem to sell carbine buffer tubes. Are there other ones and they are just sold out atm or is that the one I need? My barrel is 14.5 inches.

If you want to put an adjustable stock on it, you need the carbine tube.
Rifle tubes are for fixed stocks....something I can't seem to find anywhere either for a build. Just a nice ugly old A2 is what I'm after....

If you want to get it shipped, ask P&D Enterprises in Edmonton. Or Milarm in Edmonton. I've bought from them both in the past. Also, Motiuk Manufacturing does sell some, they might be a bit closer to you. Or maybe try Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply. I would be surprised if The Shooting Edge, or The Calgary Shooting Center, didn't have some available.

Carbine sounds like what you need, unless you're specifically looking for a Rifle length one, for a special stock like the old M16 full length canoe paddle stocks, or a more modern Magpul PRS.

Most modern stocks will use carbine buffer tubes, that's what's in all the adjustable stocks nowadays.
The only real issue to look out for is milspec versus commercial. They have slightly different diameters.

Also, some people might call them by their technical name, Receiver Extension Tube, which might throw off your search unless they also have it tagged under buffer tube.

Ah....is that what the difference is. Good stuff, thanks guys. Yes, this is for an adjustable stock AR.

So just to make sure I understand, I would use the same tube regardless of barrel length?

Buffer tube size doesn't matter what the barrel lenght is, but buffer weight should be heavier for shorter barrels. 14.5 will be fine with the standard weight buffer though.

Yes, it is the Gas System that uses different lengths depending on the barrel length. There's Rifle length(long), Midlength/carbine(medium), and Pistol (short). For a 14.5" barrel, you'll probably have a midlength/carbine gas tube.
