Question re: Importing antiques and taxes

Hi,

I read a post a while ago on gunnutz that stated that antique items (such as firearms) over 100 years old, and not for resale, were not taxable.

Am wondering whether anybody could confirm that?

I've brought several into Canada and Customs has dinged me every time for GST and PST.

No worries - thanks for the information - I actually "won" with CBSA once - they charged me HST (instead of GST and PST for Sask.) and I sent in some appeal form - I even got a check back.

It's in the customs tariff, section 97 and it only exempts the duty all other taxes apply as per the excise tax act and provincial legislation.

I was speaking only about GST/HST...I figured that is what the OP was asking about.
