I hope somebody on CGN may be able to answer this. I have a Browning BBR in .270 Win which I bought new in 1984 (last year of production for those rifles). The rifle is a great shooter, with my reloads (150 gr. Hornady's over IMR4064) I am getting super accurate and very tight groups at 100. It has taken several deer and a moose since I've owned it.

But it seems the mag spring might be losing some tension. Of course, all the BBR parts were discontinued long ago and only dribs and drabs remain. I haven't seen a single listing for available replacement mag springs anywhere in the U.S. web sites or in Canada. One acquaintance of mine also has a BBR, in .243 I think. He ended up buying a new mag as a spare about 2 years ago, he told me he bought an A-Bolt (original A-Bolt, not A-Bolt II or ABIII). Doing some research, a few forum posts in various U.S. forums seems to suggest from some that he's right, and from others that the A-Bolt mags will NOT interchange with the original BBR mags.

Anybody have any feedback on this matter? If an A-Bolt magazine will fit, then I can buy one locally or online, otherwise I'll have to start scouring the web to try to find one (likely at an over-inflated price, no doubt).

Thanks!

Call Western Gun Parts in Edmonton with your quest.
Have your make model and serial number and caliber ready and ask for inventory on the parts you need.
Some may feel the information I provided is superfluous, but I guarantee you will have better results when you have ALL of this information on hand and ready to roll.
Best Regards,
Rob
ps, if you have found a schematic , maybe even to be cheeky have the part numbers, but use that only as a last resort ;)

This ^^^

I sent them an email with my Make, Model and Serial Number and the potential part number after looking it up on the Browning web site. This was for a Browning pump rifle which has been out of production for a long time. Gave them my return email address and my phone number just in case. I received a reply in two days with number in stock and $$ needed to purchase. I paid, they shipped.
It doesn't get any easier than that imho. :dancingbanana:

Thanks, FLHTCUI and D4Dave....I'll do that, was just hoping initially to find an off-the-shelf mag which would fit - if the A-bolt mag truly is interchangeable with the previous model BBR. Instant gratification has always been my weakness/downfall.
