Question regarding 45-70 and imr 3031

Plinker load: A plain base, 405 grain cast bullet & 13 grains of Red Dot.

Very pleasant in report/recoil. About the same as 357 from a carbine or rifle.

Just to add, I use 46gr of 3031 over a 405 in my marlin. I have found this to be a very accurate load. In my Ruger #3 I use 50gr 3031 over the same 405. About 1750 and enough recoil in a light gun. These are hunting loads & not as much fun for plinking.

I agree jcave. I found the same when I grouped my batch loaded with 46 gr of 3031 over 415 gr bullet. Not much heavier to say the least. Next batch will be around 45.7 - 46.3 gr of powder and see what groups the best.

Unique powder is very hard to find right now.

Yup...I'm at 18 months on backorder here in Whitehorse...

So I've been using Trail Boss, which I already use in several other cartridges, for now at least.
