I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could go to shoot my .22 rimfire rifle on any given weeknight or day, possibly without being a member of a gun club? (If that is possible)

If you are talking about approved ranges, it depends on both club policies and conditions placed on the club by the CFO's office. At my club, I can go alone, 7 days a week, but shooting is basically limited to daylight hours. There are also ranges connected to businesses, where the hours are tied to the business. It really depends where you are.

Department of Natural Resources has public shooting ranges throughout the each province, for Nova Scotia:

http://www.atlantichuntered.ca/ns/ranges.htm

which are obviously provided by us tax payers & voters, they are open throughout the year with the busiest times being Sept, Oct & Nov as most hunters book an appointment over the phone to sight in their rifles "but" anyone can go with someone who has a valid driver's licence and shoot any firearm except the Magnum rifles and .50 cal BMG. They are open 7 days a week with the exception of Sunday.

You can also shoot or crown land provided you follow the distance of discharging a firearm from nearby roads, dwellings, schools and such. You can also shoot on farms & help farmers with their gopher population.

Depending on your local you might still need a hunting licence to hunt Gophers even with the owners permission...some provinces are less Anal.

Crown land is OK (use a backstop/hill behind your target) just be sure to research your area well as some logging operations overlap into crown land, and are marked only with GPS coordinates.

You might want to add your location to your profile - or mention it.
Silverdale near Welland or Smithville has public weekend passes. Won't do you much good if you are in BC.

If you have property ca you shoot your .22 in your yard?

Yes, but.....even though it might be perfectly safe, and perfectly legal from a firearms act perspective, you need to check that your local municipality allows for the discharge of firearms. Generally, there is no discharge (including bows, cap, starters, paint ball and air/co2/spring guns) in "towns or cities."

Also, with the spread of development and amalgamation of townships, what used to be considered "rural" might now very well be considered "urban." Always call and ask first.
