Does anyone have or has anyone shot the Webley No.1 revolver in 577? I was leafing through my Illustrated Encyclopia of Pistol and Revolvers and I thought "what a monster". I was wondering what it's recoil would be like and the physical size of the revolver. It is hard to get an idea of size without a referance. Tried unsuccessfully to find a photo to post.

I've never seen a Webley in .577 but I have seen a Tranter in that calibre. I didn't get to shoot it but it handled very well. It didn't seem unwieldy at all and pointed nicely. It was double action only and was very smooth. I don't think the recoil would be bad at all.

Hopefully these illustrations scanned from "The Webley Story" will give a better idea of scale ... particularly if you keep in mind that the bore and chamber mouths are effectively .58 caliber:

One fellow who has one of these (though it may be a non-Webley copy) and has fired it is a collector of old British handguns named Joel Black. Here is an image he posted of his revolver that I saved when he posted it, though I now can't find the forum thread he posted it in! I'm sure he'd be happy to talk about the experience if you asked. One forum where he posts regularly is the British Military Handguns forum, here:
