Hunting and carrying weapons being legal in most crown land provincial parks ect ect. That being said if I was to bring an SKS with a crate of steel cored fmj's *the cheapies* with me to do some target shooting and was asked to show the forestry rangers my weapons could they say that steel core being non hunt-able is illegal to have with you even if it's for if for target shooting?.I was also thinking if you brought a box of soft points with you also you could tell them that your soft points would be the ones that you would hunt if need be ?.Thanks.

Firearms - NOT weapons
MNR/Conservation Officer would be enforcing enforcing hunting

As for target shooting, FMJ might actually be a better idea if you're target shooting only. If you get a CO that's a bit of a dink, he can try and bust you for poaching if he sees that you're trying to do target shooting with soft points.

Provincial Parks?...you better re-read the reg's VERY carefully before you bring a firearm with you.

Forestry rangers?...in Ont, it is Conservation Officer

Weapons?...that would be firearms.(I know, it's just symantics)

Steel core non hunt-able?...there are no regulations in Ont. specifying bullet construction, although it might not be the smartest choice. ;)

Find some Crown Land or Private property(check by-laws) with an appropriate berm/ backstop, set up targets...have fun. :ar15:

Well - You're most likely to get a visit from the police, acting on a complaint. Be sure you've got your "papers"... Probably a good idea to leave your turban at home...

First, let me say this - the turban remark is totally uncalled for being a very racist remark.

Second, let me comment on the original post. Here in Saskabush you can carry a firearm in a provincial park - unloaded and cased in a vehicle when there is no open hunting season. Very few parks are closed to hunting so we always have to check the regs! Carrying a mix of steel-core and soft point ammo on your person while hunting could open you up to a charge of hunting with illegal ammo. Transporting both to the range at any time of year?? I think a CO - Conservation Officer - would have a difficult time proving the ammo/poaching charge anywhere in the country!! Yes there are some idiot COs but there are far more idiot hunters that try the illegal stuff and get upset when caught!!

For the original poster - check your provincial regs well before your adventure and if in doubt call the local Conservation office for help. Sometimes legal advice on-line is can be a little doubtful!!

I know in Manitoba hunting waterfowl you are required steel shot and if you are caught carrying lead you can be charged.

Two different cans of worms but same concept..

and still the post has not been cleaned up.

Let me say this. I know of a Lawyer, of East Indian extract that fights for, among other things, gun rights. He is fearless to the point that Attorney General appointed SIU investigators, (the people that investigate police related civilian deaths or injury), follow the SIU investigators around and intimidate them. He speaks up for the people that are being harassed by police. Please think before stereotyping.

"...Provincial Parks..." No firearms allowed in any of 'em unless there's a hunt.
"...steel cored fmj's..." Nothing about 'em in the Ontario hunting regs. Don't use 'em for hunting though.
"...tell them that your soft points would be the ones that you would hunt..." You'd be screwed if it's during deer season and don' thave a deer licence. If you're safely set up, especially knowing exactly what and what is behind your back stop out to several miles, you should be ok. Otherwise, you'd be considered to be hunting and you'd be screwed.
