Questions about 44-40

With those old cartridges, pure lead is hard to beat. Reloading doesn't have to be complicated. If you have the press, just take a case, fill it 2/3 to 3/4 full of Trail Boss or even Pyrodex CTG, then dump it in another case that you trim to that length. If you want to get fancy, solder a handle on the case. You now have a handy dandy dipper. Load and crimp. Not fancy, but very serviceable, and with those powders, a grain or 2 one way or the other won't matter. If you get a mould and some old lead, you can be shooting for under $10 a box of 50. With those mild loads, you can reload your cases a crapload of times. A tin of powder will last a looong time, at a buck a pound for lead, you'll get about 25 boolits per pound, so 4 cents per, and your primer at 5 or 6 cents.
