Hi,

I received a Wingmaster 870 Bolt and the locking block seems to just fall out of the chromed bolt if I flip the bolt upside down. I have an 870 express and the locking block is stuck in the bolt. Is this a different design or is something missing here. I would like to know just for safety concerns.

The two parts of the bolt assembly should fall apart. If it's 'stuck together' in your Express, it shouldn't be - it's probably just dirty. They should have no binding together whatsoever.

It's been a few years since I've had an 870 apart, but I think there's supposed to be a pin in the side of the locking block that keeps the block in the bolt. Probably just a roll pin. Check your locking block to see if there's an exposed hole in one side.

dakota,

Try a search on this if you haven't already. It came up in a post a while back and apparently (IIRC which is unlikely at this point) some of the very early Wingmaster bolts were two separate pieces. Newer ones are pinned together. It may have been Eos or Troutseeker that posted the info...it is around and was within the last few months.

Hope that helps

I think it was another guy that posted it!

Anyway I believe the very early ones were not pinned. This poses a big safety problem in that the locking block can be inadvertently left out. If fired with the locking block out, you can imagine how fast the bolt will come back.

If the locking block doesn't have a roll pin, is it still safe to use this bolt in my 870 express?
