I have a rifle that appears to be a Greener conversion of a Martini Henry. it's completely devoid of any Military markings and the right side of the rifle is clean, left side marked as being produced by Greener in Birmingham. the rifle shoots well (new brass but loaded a bit light with cast bullets) and the rifling is to my darn near pristine. to say the trigger pull is heavy might be an understatement-- but it shoots and extracts perfectly. It has a very good quality walnut wood stock and overall seems very lightly used. I've attached photos with the markings I can find. The rifle came to me via Newfoundland and Labrador from a small town and gentleman I won't name for their own privacy .I've owned it for about 5-6 years.
It was in the hands of it’s previous owner in in Newfoundland since 1981, according to him. A collector, he never fired it but disassembled and oiled it every few years. At 80 plus he decided to sell off his rifles and I got lucky. The seller said that he had acquired the rifle from his neighbor who had owned the rifle since "well before Confederation (1949). He told me that his neighbor had been in the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary as part of their "Marine Force " (?) until his retirement in the '40's. The wood is almost without any "dings" and the butt is without the marring I'd expect from a rifle used for drill. Speculation? is this likely a private import or? I'm considering selling it as I shoot my martini Henry far more. Any ideas ref value?
