Questions about building an AR type rifle with a different caliber than .223

I put together a Stag 10 with the IBI .243 Win barrel.

Did you get the barrel from TSE in Calgary ? PM me if so...

And have you done any testing with factory ammo, what does it like ?

Not sure what twist rate yours is but I got the 1in10 twist as I was only planning on shooting lighter bullets at coyotes. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet so can't provide you with detailed results but I was easily blowing up oranges at 300 yards with the Federal Premium 70gr NBT. That was good enough for what I wanted it for.

Also I had to use an adjustable gas block and slow it down just a bit because the extractor was leaving marks on the rim more than it should have been.

And I smoothed the edges of the barrel extension on the feed ramps as they were quite sharp and gouging the bullet pretty good.

A 6.8 bolt is easy to find. Several site sponsors have either bolts or complete bcg's. But I agree that finding an 18.6" 6.8 barrel was a b!t@#. Sure I could get one made but I didn't want a lot of money into a barrel for a not so popular caliber.

It took a while but I got an ARP barrel and superbolt. Not the cheapest route to take but is a spc II chamber, 3r rifling, and probably the best 6.8 bolt going.

Okay so I ended up getting a 6.5 creedmoor pencil barrel from maple ridge armory. Is it a simple swap in my bcl or do I need go/ no go gauges?

Yes, and no... Swap your gas system (if it's the same length gas tube), and yes - check the tolerances.
Some find that easy, some may not...

Good luck !
