i would say that if it is a model 700 you got a deal .the 2506 is a great cal for big and small game .it will do a great job on moose and elk out past 300 yards .and for deer i think it is ne od the best next to the 264win mag .great gun in a great cal DUTCH

25-06 is a multipurpose laser beam, eclipsed only by the phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. $500...good score!!

I have a 25-06 and it would not be my first choice for moose or elk. I prefer heavier bullets though I will concede that when loaded with premium bullets the 25-06 is capable of ethical harvests of moose and elk.

I have a 700 BDL in .25-06 and had a Ruger M77V in .25.06. My kid caught me in a weak moment and talked me out of the Ruger.

Great caliber in a great rifle.

Where did you get the smokin' deal? I'm looking for a .243 or 25-06. I prefer new so you know exactly what you're getting.

You done good! The .25/06 is one of the flattest shooting cartridges we have and the M-700 is a fine rifle. I agree with the comments above concerning the use of premium bullets on elk and moose, but I would be inclined to use premiums for all big game with any cartridge that typically has a very high impact velocity.
