Questions about Norinco NP40

I handled a CZ75 SP1 Shadow this weekend (had not handled a CZ in over 15 years) and now would like to buy a CZ75 type gun, but in .40 S&W. Unfortunately finances would not permit that for a while, so I was thinking about the NP40 instead.

So my questions are: for those who've handled both CZ's and the NP40, how similar/different are the grips? I know physically they look very close, but what's your impression when actually holding them? Do the grips for CZ's fit the NP40? How different are the trigger pulls? What kind of groups do you get with it and at what distance? And this one for anybody with the answer: can a CZ barrel be installed in a NP40?

I really like the CZ75's grip; it's one of the most comfortable ones for me, right up there with the BHP, and even more comfortable than my main gun, a Para P14/45.

By the way, I read everything I could find here about the NP40, so I am aware of the negative comments already. I also know that if I waited until I could afford the original I’d be much pleased, but I don’t know how long that would take and I want it now. If it’s not worth it, I might just wait for a used CZ75 in 9mm to come up, but so far even those, as well as other clones, are almost twice the price of a new NP40. Thanks.

I have shot both, I own the Norc.
CZ original grips do NOT fit on the Norc, however the Hogue rubber replacement CZ grips fit the Norc like a glove. All but two of my handguns have Hogue rubber grips, I swear by them.
To say the Norc is as good as the CZ would be a lie. The CZ has an excellent "out of the box" trigger. That being said, I have "tuned" all my Norcs (NZ-85, NP40, 1911C) and they all are shooters.

The difference between the CZ and Norc does not warrent the $350 difference in the price tag. I have paid $700+ for other pistols, but personally can't justify the $700 for the CZ. The Norc is a damn good pistol for $350 and if you ad adjustable LPA sights, it just gets better.

I have adjustable LPA sights on my NZ-85 and LPA fiber optics on the NP40. So if you are handy with a Dremel tool and like to tinker, the Norc is an excellent choice.

I sometimes shoot next to a guy with a CZ, he scores lower than me... so accuracy is inherent to the shooter and NOT the firearm.

The way I see it, I got two Norc CZ clones for the price of a real CZ.

Thanks Griffoneur!

I can certainly work on the trigger, I have on most of my guns. Not to do a full trigger job, but at least to polish it.

What did you do to the trigger, work on angles and stuff, or you just polished it. Did you get a trigger pull similar to the CZ's quality-wise? Also, do the Hogue grips make the grip feel wider than the original? How would you compare the feeling of the original grips to the CZ's?

I have more questions concerning the LPA sights, but will ask you later, it's enough for now. Thanks ;)
