Sooooo might trade a rifle in soon to a dude for a AR15 Comp worthy rig .... i think i wanna put the regular scope on top and get 45 degree mount to put a red dot or holographic reflex on it on the side ..... kinda just cause it looks cool and fun ( hehe ) , but also since trying out 3 gun comp i see the benefit now having 2 zeros

so i always see there the reflex style and not the red dot /tube style , why is that ??Ive got a nice red dot , but no reflex yet ...... might need a Venom or so

any how , please Chime in why that is if yall know

The difference is in the way that the reticle is made visible by the optic; your eyes likely won't know the difference. Google will do a better job of explaining it than I will.

Just keep in mind that having a magnified optic as well as a non magnified supplementary optic will put you into open class for 3 gun, which may not be where you want to be if you're just starting out. Offset irons are good to go, but an extra optic will bump you up.

If you're looking to get set up for 3 gun I would recommend a low power variable optic like a 1-6 or 1-8 power. This gives you the ability to effectively engage targets at both close and long range, while still ensuring you only have one magnified optic as per the rules

There's nothing that says you can't run your offset dot and shoot in open class if your other firearms aren't set up for it, you will just likely be outclassed by others who are.

Or run the low power variable scope and offset irons (as others have said).

This way you can start the stage with the scope zoomed in for distance shot and use the irons for close stuff. With this setup you do not have to move up to open.

Ya. I'm tapped out ATM for money. Very possibly trading my minty M1a for a comp AR. Keeping the 3.5-10 x leupold and might put that on it with the 55 gr/ 223 dial on. And go to tac ops division. Rifle will come with flip up iron so hope I could put on off set thingies. But ya. I'm tapped out to even think about a super mag fed shotgun or optics on a pistol for open class. I'll be happy with limited or tac ops.

If I get the rifle I'll see if that scope suits it. Haha. Might look cool on an 12.5 " ar

I kinda just want 2 zeros.

Close and far.

20 yards and 100

Weird stuff happens with 7.62x39 anyway in between. 223 should be more forgiving esp with optics ( either and irons ) would have been bad ass to run red dot and scope ... but ya. That's open .... I'll hold off , heck I still wanna run heavy metal division with the Garand and pump

You should be able to zero your primary optic for A zone hits from 0-300 on a standard IDPA target....

That said, I don’t 3 gun.... Heck, I don’t 2 gun! Maybe I’m missing a critical piece of information when it comes to 3-gun.....

If you're going to shoot tac ops then I suggest offset irons as well. 3.5x magnification is not going to be fun for shooting targets up close. Limited allows for 1 non magnified optic, so that scope puts you out of that.

A 25/200 yard zero makes the most sense with the dot/irons, IMO. 100 yards with a magnified optic also makes sense.

An Eotech for 3 gun is great, you can add a magnifier if you want for longer targets. Zeroed for 50/200 M and you’ll be laughing.
