I picked up a nice little Webley and Scott Mk III in .38 S&W. It is marked "War Finish" on the right side of the frame along with a small "Broad Arrow" acceptance mark. The Mk III has a shorter grip length than the Mk IV but this one is fitted with extended wooden grips and an elongated butt swivel stud.

I have read that during the war the Webley Mk IV was used alongside the issue Enfield revolvers. But what about the Mk III? Were they also used? How many? How can you determine the year of manufacture? Given the smaller size was it issued to second line troops?

If it's broad Arrowed and marked war finish, it's DEFINITELY WW2 issue. Quantities of these were boiught by the brits before RSAF Enfield ripped off the design and made the Enfield revolvers... lol.

There is a fair bit of info on the Webley & Scott Mk IV being used as a substitute standard during WWII . I can't find much on use of the Mk III with its shorter barrel and grip frame as a substitute standard however.
