Folks,

I just acquired a Lee Anniversary kit and a bunch of gear and supplies needed to reload 308 win. The only missing element is the powder and I hope to begin setting up my "station" in a month or so.

I have an underutilized, heavy office table that i will use in my garage. Its about 24" deep and 45" wide. A 16" drawer is on the right so there's really only 30" of width left to position the press. Being right handed, the press will likely be on my right, just before the drawer.

My questions:

1. Does the powder measure need to be positioned at the edge of the table or can it be placed further inside?

2. I read somewhere that proximity to flourescent lights can affect the Safety scale. How far/close can they be? Would flourescent bulbs also apply?

3. With 3 young kids and a non-shooting wife, I am proceeding slowly and carefully as she has great reservations about this activity in our garage. I have read books and watched youtube videos on reloading but I don't feel confident enough to start. So I thought I'd ask, did you start off on your own or did you get to observe and be taught be others?

Is there anyone able to show me the ropes once my setup is done? Can be at your place or mine. I can only offer lunch on a weekend  Or should I just watch and read a few more videos and books and go off on my own?

Cheers.

I went over to a friends who reloaded and had him kind of show me the steps.

Once you do it once it's easy peasy.

Read your Lee manual that cam with the kit, all the info you need to get started should be there.

You can place the powder measure wherever is convenient for you, I find it easier (if and when I do use one) to have it on the edge of my loading bench.

I had a friend show me. Although as time has passed, I've learned that everything he taught me might not be 100% correct - like starting out with the max load

Flourescent lights have been said to affect electronic scales, not balance beam ones like your Lee.

The Lee Powder measure mounted on its stand has enough room under the drop spout for most rounds smaller than .50bmg. So you can bolt it where ever you like.

Reloading should be plenty safe in your home, and the ammo should be safe to fire in the field so long as reasonable precaution is taken and manuals are followed. I learned on my own.

Since you can drive for 24 hours and still be in Ontario, narrowing down your location a bit might help you get some offers.

I would recomend any of the speer reloading manuals, for a beginner it is easy to understand and covers all (almost) you need to Know. Like everything else, except marriage, it gets easier with time.

Send me a PM and ill be glad to go through some basic steps of reloading.
We can arrange a time
I remember when i started and had a million questions which are not all answered on those you tube videos.
