I AM making a deal for a sporterized g43 rifle ac /44

good news-- all metal is ok barrel/ bore /sites / action/ bolt / gas system all good ...........a vopo reissued rifle .

bad stuff .........
magazine chopped down / 5 round

wood stock altered to take a rubber buttpad and a fancy long pistol grip added....


SO my questions ..................any members or dealer spots to scrounge up say 1 mag within our country ? ( i know there costly and know the modern copies are not very good)

a proper buttplate real on modern copy ...........

i wonder if the buttstock could be STRECHED back to proper lenth, with a donor piece of wood ( maybe a chunk of a broke k98 buttstock?)

my plan B
is to get a modern made ww2 stock off flea bay theres a seller from poland offering various ww2 styled stocks . any HELP / advise most welcomed ! MY FIRST G43 FIND !

rifles at home now .............it appears the stock was painted black, and the butt was cut off just were the buttplate was flush to the stock. IT APPEARS its laminated under the paint .
any suggestions ? I have an idea I can replace the wood under were the buttplate will go, any options to removing paint with out hurting the wood stock?? ill be disassembling the rifle to have a look and oil the bits pieces to get to know it better.
 
You can use furniture stripper to get the paint off and it should not harm the wood. Test it first to make sure it doesn't harm the lamination.

the buttstock was cut straight...........the piece cut off was what would be UNDER the steel buttplate so i think IF i can get a piece of good wood shaped and attached it will then be hidden by the steel cupped buttplate ......YES?
ANY ideas on doing that ?

first ill be tearing down the rifle to get a look at things , and i then how ill get the paint off, THEN the altering of the big pistol grip back to military looks, then the buttplate issue . .....

Sound possible. Wouldn't even need to be wood or even attached to the rifle if the screws go through the butt plate. If the butt plate does screw onto the stock you could make a plastic spacer that acts like a washer. Would be easier than making one from wood.

If that is how it all pieces together.
 
Spacer could be made from whatever would work. If you had a broken Mauser stock you could trim off the required part and epoxy/pin the piece on. It will be pretty invisible that way.
Will be interesting to see what the pistol grip looks like under the black paint. Should hopefully be able to cut it off and sand it so you could never tell... Hopefully it's just glued.
 
Oh my! I bought a Walther double-lug early 1945 G43 several years ago. It has a stylish but inappropriate sporting rifle stock and a replacement handguard. The magazine was bandsaw cut to 5-shots, and the back sight was ground off. Very ugly! I found replacement parts on line and by trading. That got it to the point where only the sight ears needed work. I sold it to a WW2 reenactor who knew the tricks to make the backsight whole again. It was a second G43 in the locker, so I didn't feel bad about selling it on.

The original stock is likely beech laminate. The buttplate is a cup style. You might be able to scab other pieces onto it. The missing parts usually include front sight hood, cleaning rod, sling and a little sheet metal cover on the cocking handle. Fortunately the Germans made several hundred thousand examples so there are parts out there.
 
disassemble things , found a little good an some bad ...................the buttpad was removed and found bubba had THINNED stock so cannot use a proper steel buttplate.
all parts of gas system were stamped by vope / east germans
the front band was slightly altered by bubba by having a spring UNDER the stock .
top wood guard seems un altered.
I will now consider getting a modern stock from Poland and will sell off the bubba stock perhaps some one with tme an skill can use it / re store it .
 
With the pistol grip mods the stock is firewood. Sad but true.
You do have most of the metal which is nice. Add some stain to a repop stock and it will make a good shooter and look the part!
 
Nagantsniper. I have an original K43 lower that has been butchered at the front end. It's of no use to me so if you are serious about getting that stock back in shape you can have it for donor wood. My grip area looks like it's been left mostly alone (still has a faint WaA stamp). Let me know, you have my email address (lol and my butt plate/magazine). You could cut the last inch off mine, it would be close to the right size and have the cavity hole already in it. Major win!
 
update-----
got a modern made stock from poland , got a SPRING SET, AM WAITING ON THE shooters kit, then will assemble things, as i wait im reloading some 8mm ammo up,

stay tuned for befor / after pics . will be asking advise as i proceed ............no expert on the g43 but it is interesting so far.
