Hello everyone,

I have a simple question for those who own or have shot the c7 rifles wearing green factory furniture.

I am curious what these green handguards are made from? Are they a good hard thermoset plastic that is "green" or are they just green glass filled nylon handguards like you'd buy from any commercial supplier?

All the furniture is supposed to be some material rated for an NBC environment and that is about all I know about it. I'll ask my weapon tech bud's in the army and see if any of them know.

Most of those tales are fiction. They are plastic. They used older CAR stocks because they were available.

I don’t believe that’s correct. Yes they painted the C8 handguards originally but the green handguards definitely contain fibre. You can see it in the vent holes.

The Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) is a terrible paint to work with. Toxic, and fragile. Even post cured it is a nightmare to glue gaskets to as contact cement eats it faster than paint stripper. It is supposed to require sandblasting but a hot solvent wash causes even decades old CARC to sheet off.

Complete garbage, I am surprised it is waterproof.

Just my take on MILSPEC not being worth the paper it was written on.

Thanks for the replies gents. If they're the same plastic as a genuine M16 or Colt Car handguards, then they must be the good hard thermoplastic rather than glass filled nylon?

They do have glass fibers in them, so did the originals. I have some originals I can dig out later. You could ask Rebel Rouser as well, he's a big Diemaco/C.C. collector.

they are different. You can actually see the glass fiber in the nylon.

OK seems the opinion that they're made from nylon rather than thermoplastic...

I asked as I like green, but I hate the commercial market handguards made out of glass filled nylon. They're soft and flex/deform more easily, to me, just feel cheap....

Guess I'll have to either go without green or get a can of spray paint and use on some GI black handguards :)

I don’t think anyone is saying they’re nylon. Fibre filled plastic, could be thermoplastic, who knows. They are not flimsy if that’s what you’re asking.

If you can get a Colt Canada takeoff handguard in ODG, take it. They are notably different than the plastic ones I've handled, from other manufacturers.
