weight isn't much of a deterant on a bench, its an advantage-but it sure is on a walking gun. Personally, a nice .22 that weighs 4 to 5lb is a nice weight to carry, the mohawk is 4 lb-the savage is 5
I can say with confidence that there is very little accuracy difference between the stainless and cArbon heavy barrels offered from savage. I own the btvs and my brother inlaw has the fvsr I gave him the thumbhole stock off of mine and put a Boyd's rimfire target on mine. For the exception of slightly different ammo preferences both rifles will out shoot us. We can shoot the bottom out of shotgun shells at 100m and reset targets at 150m 5 for 5 so long as the wind is in our favor. I personally like the stainless as li live on the wet coast and don't have to worrie as much about tarnishing the finish from the salt air. But the look of the 16.5" blued barrel in that laminate thumbhole stock is very ###y.
Im looking for a 17hmr to buy and think I'll get a stainless synthetic version then put a Boyd's stock under it. At least that way I'll get what I need and want.
