Gents,

Myself and 4 others have started brainstorming our moose hunt for the 2012 season and we are considering Nakina / 18a just on the basis of the group size for a tag and the amount of crown land up there and access roads. I am a total newbie to hunting and the others experience varies.

A quick search turned up that "traditional hunts" on ATV's have been decimating the moose population up there. Has anyone had any luck up there in 2011? Should we avoid 18A and look into another WMU?

Any tips or points are more then welcomed! Thank you in advance.

No sure you will get real honest info...especially if it has been good.

"traditional hunt on ATV's.....Indians????

An older co-worker said back in '08 a few natives were bugging him and a few others during bow season on their atv's. He said he would never return but it was a great area for Moose if you can get to a remote area.

A few posts on here mentioned of other groups roaming around during night with their rifles and such potentially scaring off game. I am wondering if a problem does exist or if its just a few instances of bad luck scenarios.

my group been hunting there for something like 12 years, last 5 with no succes and less and less moose spoted, the ones we see are all very shy, there is moose up there but we are not comming back, someone is doing good job at spooking the game

I use to hunt there with a group for many years with good success but we eventually quit for reasons noted above. A few of us went back about 3 or 4 years ago to give it one more try and it sucked. There was some moose there but they were skittish and would never show themselves, the locals hit them hard every year. As well one thing I noted was when I first started hunting there around 1995 or 96 you would rarely see any wolf or bear tracks and when I was there last it was nothing but predator tracks and scat and that is probably having some effect as well, I love the area but the moose just aren`t there like they used to be.
