i got a RPAL newbie question

What kind of questions are they asking your spouse and references when they call for the interview ?

When my wife applied they never called me. They will mostly likely just call references. Questions will be in regards to your ability to use and handle firearms safely. And some questions about jobs loss, depression, substance abuse. Fairly simple questions.

Hope this helps.

on the flip side I'm currently awaiting my RPAL. One of my references has been having trouble getting through to answer the questions. Its the only thing delaying my license. They did not call or ask to speak to my wife at all.
I must say I'm curious why you're concerned.

References:

How long have you known the applicant?
Were you forced to be a reference?
Are you free to talk about the applicant?
Does the applicant show a fascination with workplace/school shootings?
Describe a time when you saw the applicant behave violently.
What would you do if you suspected the applicant was about to commit a violent act.

Basically the CFC assumes you are a criminal.

Wow! I see i was just wondering, thought they would go into personal life questions that my refs wouldn't be able to answer i'll ask my wife's sister and maybe her 25 year old son i've known them for 20 years but they don't "know" know me. We know each other socially. Basically i was just wondering if you had to get like "close personal friends" or just peoples that know you.

Not "concerned" just curious i always wondered why they had to call (or as a matter of fact why we had to have the spouse's permission) got my regular PAL they never bothered to call anyone i guess i'm from the old school.

They do not contact your spouse. They sign off on the form. Only my references were interviewed and most of the questions were whether or not I was dangerous or mentally ill/ depressed.

When I got called, they just asked how well I knew the person. How they respond to stress, how they dealt with the loss of a loved one, how they deal with anger and how I feel about them being around firearms. If they are safe or not.

i guess if she already signed for a regular PAL, they don't really bother

Good to know thanks guys ;)

I used my buddies wife as a reference, and she hates my guts, lol! But she is honest, and that's why I picked her as one. It's important to listen to your critics-man-whore yes, but violent..no :)

During my call as a reference for a friend...

"Does X talk about mass shootings, executions, or suicide a lot? Does X see a news story about a mass murderer and believe that they are that person?"

I nearly said into my phone "What the #### are you talking about?".

One of my references is a VIP at external affairs and has a PAL.
The CFO called him while in his office and he was not having a good day.
They asked him some questions and he asked for clarification.
They gave him an example: What do you think Mr. ### would do if his daughter was hurt or molested?
Answer: Not sure I can tell you what Mr.### would do, but if it was my daughter, I would
go to Mr. ###'s house and borrow his pistol.

Good answer, no problem with getting my RPAL.............
