I have a P226 with a beavertail on it and I am trying to find out why it would be that way. The pistol is not an Elite and near as I can tell, shouldn't have the beavertail on it. Any ideas?

There were a few modles that had the beavertail like the Blackwater (there are more just can't remember). Have it makes it more comfortable to hold so I wouldn't complain to much :p

That could be a very rare CPO model? As far as the Blackwater model goes, the first years of the Blackwater did not have the beavertail, I think that least ones did, but those gun were all clearly marked. I think you could also have a gun were a new frame may have been purchased or the were you got it from used the frame from and Elite and regular slide. Anyway you look at it, that is a pretty cool gun, very unique. I have owned a lot of SIG but never seen one like that with no markings.

I believe Questar had some Limited Edition 226's a while back with the beavertail. You may want to check with them.

questar is all out, very few sigs left :( i wanted to buy the tactical ops sig 226 but they sold out fast! i had the blackwater, that was a fantastic piece, but i sold it like fool. DO NOT SELL YOUR GUNS.

My bet would be that it's a "Gun of the Month". SIG has a unique tendency of "finding" forgotten frames and slides, putting 'em together, saying "hmmm, that looks nifty!" and sending them out the door as a GOTM. IIRC, the same model pistol was brought up on another forum a while back & it turned out to be a GOTM from '08 or '09. (Fairly recent, anyways.)

Do you have the original blue box? What does the sticker say?

Oh, and just to be sure, it does NOT have an SRT?

Its a X-5 or a X-6 bever tail

Oooh! Stated as an absolute, without a hint of hesitation!

+5 points for confidence!

Unfortunately, -10 points for giving an answer that is completely wrong. The rail is one "notch" (piccatin?) away from an X-Five, and there's no front slide serrations. See if you can find other differences, I might give you bonus points...

And you're gonna need 'em, because I'm also giving you....

-800 points for contributing to confusion and misinformation!! Better luck next time!

Finally found the original blue box. Markings are as follows:
226BR-22-BAS-Combo (Combo is hadwritten)
P226R 22 Nitron Adj. DA/SA Beavertail
Made 24 Nov 2008
I'm thing ACM won the contest with the Gun of the Month idea.
Thanks all for your thoughts.

Did Sig make a 226 with a 22 conversion kit with it???

I don't know why I didn't think to ask, but if it's a .22, not a 9mm or .40, then that's a 226 Classic .22, a current product available with or without additional beaver... Not sure about the "combo" part, though, did it come with extra magazines or other goodies?

I bought is used off of a member here and it came as a 9mm with 2 mags. I am wondering the same thing about the combo part. Maybe it should have a .22 slide as well? Still checking, curious minds (mine) want to know.

It's an interesting find. The "BR" is definetely beavertail, rail but I'm not sure about the "combo" part. It's not listed in the 2008 catalogue and I didn't think that the .22 conversions came out till 2009. The only 226 listed with a beavertail in 2008 besides the Elite is "Platinum" edition. Yours is obviously not either of those models.
I suspect that Sig had extra beavertail frames and used those calling it a limited edition etc. You could probably get a lot more information by posting this on Sigforum.

I have tried to register on Sigforums, but am still in the "not approved" status. Have done some more research, quiet night at work, and found that this is most likely a .22 P226 wih the 9mm conversion slide. The serial number lines up with others that I have been able to find on the net, as well as other forums. One individual said that buying the beavertail .22 and then getting the conversion kit is the cheapest way to get a Sig with the beavertail. Tend to believe him. Anyway, thanks to all who took the time to chime in on this "mystery".

Well, regardless of how it came about (sounds like the previous owner kept the .22 slide, "combo" is starting to make sense now) I'd say you came out with the better deal - You can easily get a .22 slide to throw on there, a 9mm, not quite so common!

One more question, just for my curiosity: Does the original case have extra cutouts in the foam for an extra slide & mag(s)?
