Got a new 870 18" synthetic and the action bar lock used to have some play like it says in the manual, (like you used to be able to push it in and let it out to rack the slide) but now the slide racks freely and the action bar lock doesn't want to retract, it's always in the "in" position. Is this a big concern?

Yes, it is of concern because your bolt is not locking up, and will slide violently backwards if you discharge the gun in this condition. Have it fixed.

thanks; what would cause this to happen?
Taking a dremmel to the slide lock bar caused this for me ;)

Experience is what you have right after you need it :D

I've been able to tune them now so pulling the trigger relases the slide lock bar... works sweeet for quick pumping :)

 I haven't seen an 870 where pulling the trigger did not release the slide lock.. That is the way it is designed to work..

If you're trying to pump fast and pull back hard on the pump BEFORE you pull the trigger, it won't release, you have to puch forward and then pull back to unlock it.

It just makes up for bad form, lets you pump fast with no lockups :)

If there is a loaded round in the chamber and you are pulling back hard on the forend, when you fire the shell the recoil automatically causes the lock to release...

If you are able to pull so hard as to keep it locked on recoil, you must be a gorilla.

If you are firing and cycling it empty at the TV, you will have problems...

I'm not talking about the top lock, i'm talking that little bar that sticks up and locks the slide rail bars. It doesn't take much pulling back to cause it to not release on firing (real rounds).
