Planning to buy a Maverick 88 Security pretty quick here to carry while bow hunting in Grizz country. I want to put a sling on it, but I need it to be quickly accessible. I usually have my bow in one hand and gun in the other, which is why short and light is nice! I carried my M94 .444 last year and it worked great, but it takes abeating out there and I'd rather get a gun I don't mind beating up.
Whats available,as far as slings go,for quick accessability? I've seen some that let the gun hang in front of you, instead of over the shoulder. ANyone try these, and did you find them comfortable and effective?

have you thought of a backpack with a shotgun scabbard or gunbearer? the gun is not quite as quickly accessible as a sling, but its less likely to get tangled up and its way more convenient to carry.
just a thought.

I run a tactical 2 point sling with the quick slide release to give it extra length. It rides tight across my back (barrel down). When I want to bring it into firing position, I release the slide strap, increasing its length, and swing it around to the firing position. I even run this setup with a small pack on and everything stays nice and snug until needed. It sounds like its a hassle, but it's actually a pretty fast and smooth transition. Comfortable too!
Lots of tactical outfitters have there own versions. Mine is made by Condor.

The best part is it looks so unassuming when I run into other anglers on the rivers I fish. Just a guy with a shotgun slung on his back.

Thanks for those suggestions guys.Unfortunately, carrying on the back is not going to work for me most of the time. I have a climbing stand that I carry on my back on the way in and out of my hunting spots sometimes, and other times its a blind or just my pack with all my gear. I'll keep looking, hopefully I can find something that works.

I have a "breachers sling" on my shorty 870. A wide elastic type sling that goes over one shoulder, and allows you to carry the shotgun in one hand with the weight partially supported. When you drop it, it will hang by your side. Has a nifty little clip on it that allows it to be detached quickly.
The width of the sling allows the weight to be distributed so it doesn't cut into the shoulder too much at all.
