I had a chance to take my Glock 22 RTF2 to the range this afternoon and also try it with the 31C .357 SIG top end. I was shooting about as fast as I could get the sights back on target and I was really impressed at how easy it was to shoot the 31C very fast in comparison to the .40. I was shooting 125 gr Winchester FMJ for .357 and 180 gr Sellier and Bellot for the .40. The .357 is fun to shoot for sure (if a little expensive!). There was not a whole lot more muzzle flip in the .40 but I could feel the "push" in my arms more.

nice shooting and interesting comparison Master-G. every time i think the 357 sig is out of my system, something like this comes along and make me want one.

Has anyone set up a 1911 in 400 Cor bon. Just have the itch for a Long slide project that's just a bit different

Built one on a Nork slide/frame. Works very well and very manageable. Still developing warm loads but seems to perform like the 10mm but with lower pressures.

It's really simple physics, the 357 is pushing a lighter projectile which means it will have less recoil.
It would've been nice to compare comp vs. non-comp for the .357 for a true comparison, but from a recoil point of view, though, the recoil momentum (muzzle velocity X weight) of the two cartridges is actually quite close. The .357 SIG ammo is 125 gr @ 1350 fps, for a "momentum number" let's call it (I can't be bothered to convert to a real unit and for this exercise it doesn't matter) of 168,750. The .40 is 180 gr @ 968 fps, for 174,240. In other words, the .357 ammo had 96.8% of the recoil impulse that the .40 did. I did a similar comparison in a P226 last year and found the two felt quite similar in a P226...the porting of the 31C made more of a difference than I expected. Here's the SIG from last year:

357 Sig is an awesome caliber... excellent velocity and energy (stopping power), with less recoil than the 40 S&W. Downfall is the poor availability of the ammunition and price or you'd see more of us using it.

I've found most factory .357 sig to be lacking in velocity. Handloading is definitely the way to go if you are looking for .357 mag type velocities.
