Quick cleaning question for USP

I guess my question is, would I be able to perform all of the function checks and tests if one of the pieces wasn't placed properly? I just want to know if it's normal for my USP to rattle a little when I move it around quickly. :(

It's only the larger Catch piece and then, it has about 2 millimetres of play. A problem?

bahhaha not so simple on the install huh? WHich part specifically? Ask Maurice, he is HK king.. I get zero rattle on mine. Ive just removed some basic parts but havent had it fully apart yet. My biggest worry on taking it apart is loosing or breaking a part. I dont have any spares and spares can be hard to get.

I didn't lose any parts: only the catch moves a bit, like it has some play between it, the smaller part of the catch and the part on the other side. Perhaps I need to put more lub to help them stick together? That would make sense actually, now that I think about it...

I am finishing some wood at the moment, I can look over the manual, because I know that the catch and the latch match up when you install them.(the latch is the larger piece that press's up when you press the trigger to push in the Firing pin Block) which allows the firing pin to strike once the hammer engages it.

I think I know why it's a little loose: could it be lack of lubrication!? Since the parts are metal and there's no liquid/oil to keep them together, when I move the gun very fast, the catch moves a bit and "hits" the other parts, making a metallic noise. If I were to lub it properly, it wouldn't hit metal on metal, but rather lub on lub...

I basically removed all oil and #### from the pieces when I wiped them off after disassembly. Does this make sense ?? The dark grease I removed probably helped holding them together... God I feel like such a nub.

Lightly oil (not even a drop, just place some on your finger and rub it in). I also use a gun grease called slide glide lite on the top of those parts.
Don't put anything on the sear engagement surfaces, just make sure it is clean. The hammer could use some gun grease as could the entire hammer strut, and trigger bar.

Can you take a good close up picture(S) and send them to with the slide off. A picture of the slide looking down on it as it is pointing forward. point out anything that is moving very loosely.

did you buy this new?

It wasn't loose before I disassembled it, only after I removed the grease/lub from the pieces and reassembled it without putting anything on them. I'll take digipics later and post them here. It's practically new... :)

You should be able to get it all done and back no problem. I got alot of sand in my gun after that cursed match in Haliburton..where it was a thousand degrees.. I use abit of CLP on qtips to lightly clean then sparingly recoat..use very very little. The gun runs best slightly dry.

I think all it needed was some lubricant because it seems better now: when I go half-cocked and fully cocked, there's no loose. When it's not cocked, sometimes it will be a little loose, other times not... really weird, but I'm not too worried. In any case, I am posting pics for you guys to compare and see what you think...

Do you have less than a 100 rounds throuhg that thing? It looks real new.

I cleaned it really well. I must've shot about 300 rounds through it...

Does it look alright? :)

Looks fine, but I can not get mine to rattle. Are you sure the hammer is in correctly? In the 1st pic it looks odd in that the hammer is not flush with the side..? When you re-installed the hammer and hammer strut, was the hammer strut inside the hammer?

It's no longer rattling at all. The lubricant I put in it has fixed the problem completely...

The barrel is well inserted along with the strut. I doubt my function checks would've been successful otherwise. :)

I'm eagerly awaiting saturday/sunday/monday to hit the range and try it out. This time, I'll make sure to keep it away from sand :D

I highly recommend the Slide Glide lite from Brian Enos. It works very well to smooth out the DA pull for the USP. It is also great on the entire recoil spring assembly and slide rails.

Where would you apply the slide glide for DA pull effect? Mine already seems better after cleaning but it could definitely use some help :)

On and around the hammer, hammer strut, and trigger bar. These areas move when you press the trigger, and rub against each other, causing friction. Anywhere the moving parts contact anything; lightly coat the entire barrel, as it moves in the slide and protrudes out of the slide during recoil and slide movement. The entire recoil assembly including the guide rod, underneath the slide around the area that slides over the hammer, and of course the slide rails (use a small enough tool or q-tip to press some into the slide rails)

why not try ultrasonic cleaner,I learned it is very effective and easy way to clean small parts. maybe you can buy one for 30 dollars shared with your wife(since ultrasonic cleaner major designed for cleaning jewellery or watches:p
