I just picked a Remington 7600 pump to which I want to put studs for quick detach swivels. Rear stock is no problem but I do not want to put a barrel band on the front. There was once an Uncle Mikes ? arrangement that replaced the forestock screw or bolt so the front stud would go there. Sort of like the magazine cap arrangements for a Remington 870 shotgun. Can anyone offer advice? The caribou are calling!

Just my 2 cents here, the QD system you are talking about worked, but I have found that it had either bent the forearm hanger in worst case scenarios or the threaded "hole" where it goes in has actually stripped and come out as this piece is threaded into the end of the hanger and staked.
The barrel band system isn't bad, but it does have distinct disadvantages as well ie: potential barrel bending and pressure if the sling is used while shooting.
How's that for pooping on your parade?:p

I've used several 760/7600s with the barrel band front swivel. They work fine. When hunting with a pumpgun, I carry the sling in my pocket anyways.

When attaching the swivel stud to the butt stock, don't place the stud too far back on the stock as sometimes they will break off the toe of the butt.

I've used the barrel band and no issues. No problems with accuracy either.

SuperCub, I hope that you're not speaking from first hand knowledge with respect to the stock breaking.

7600 sling swivels

I want the swivels to actual "sling" the rifle while hunting on snowshoes and hauling out game on a sled or deer carrier. I probably would not use the sling to steady the rifle for fear of moving the point of impact. Is barrel bending a serious issue? I once saw a 7400 that had the front screw/nut modified to accept a Harris bipod, but this is probably more than I want to do. Are the screw/bolt kits still available? Make or model #, please if known. Thanks.

You can replace the forestock screw for one with a swivel. Uncle Mike's makes one for the 76 that works perfectly on the 7600, they don't make one for the 7600. My buddy and myself both have them on our 7600's.

the barrel band is not a problem at all. supercub is right, if you drill it your self drill the hole about 2 1/2 to 3" up from the toe.

Attaboy, Marzie. Spread the word! If I remember correctly, you might have to trim the length of the spacer tube and/or the swivel bolt. Not a difficult job either way with a Dremel tool.
