I am wondering if Winchester 1300 defender 18'' barrel ,can it shoot buck shots ? I tried slugs before but never tried buck shots, just want to make sure.....before something goes wrong, any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!!!

Hey, more Richmond folk...good on ya'. No prob w/ buckshot, just make sure that the shell is of proper chambering (no 3" in 2 3/4"). Wouldn't expect much for groupings if it has the same slug-shot out choke as one of mine :p

Thank you for all your helpful info,I got it so I can do it tomorrow at the range to see how the groupings going,as for my defender with 18'' barrel,I think there is no choke in it,just smooth bore for slugs, should be no problem for buck shots. thanks again!!!

City Hunter at what yardage are you going to shoot buck shot out of you 18 inch barrel?

Why would it matter?

In fact compared to a longer barrel (lets say 28") it should be faster coming out of an 18" one.

I'd be more concerned with what choke he has.

Just be aware that all buckshot is not the same. Different loads will most certainly give completely different (size and shape) patterns and you have to find one that works best with your particular gun. The Patternmaster choke is great for use with buckshot. I got to see one in action and it was printing hand size groups at 25m with any load of buckshot.

How is the pattern master if you use slugs?
I know some folks that say it gets royally screwed up if you use slugs through them.

That I am not sure of Calum, it fired the slugs very well and accurately on the range that day and the owner said it was great with slugs. However I am not sure, given that there are small projections inside the choke tube to slow the wad down, whether or not it will build up with plastic and/or lead. Maybe someone with more knowledge can answer.

Cheers
