Quick load help. 325wsm 160 ttsx

I’ve been gifted a 325wsm in a model 70, now I know there’s a lot of other great setups that will do the same. But…. I have shortened the barrel to 20” and it’s a joy to carry.
Ive picked up some 160 grain ttsx as I have had great results with 165 in a 300wsm going 3150
With the slightly larger caliber I can now push these bullets around 3300 according to Barnes own load data in a 24”
That should only take away around 100fps in a 20” … I’m looking at this as the big brother to the 130ttsx in a 308 which have proven itself.
I’m looking for someone with quick load that would be willing to help find the right powder.
So far I put some h4350 behind the bullet but it’s obviously way too slow. The bullet certainly leaves the barrel before the powder is done burning up.
I’d be interested in trying some of the N powders.

I think big game will be perfect, and not too slow. I'm not around a computer at the moment to check out quickload. But Speer has load data for the 325WSM for 170 grain and 150 grain bullets. It's not showing a co.ptessed charge either, and it's second of third for velocity. So it should work perfect. You can use H380 as well, it's just a bit less temp stable and going to lack the velocity.
 
My M70 325 WSM dotes on bullets from 180 grains and up. My pet load is the 196 Norma ORYX, chased by a healthy dose of MRP.
Big Game sounds like a better choice for that 160 Monometal bullet.
 
I “was” shooting 200grain tsx, was getting 2850 which is very modest compared to what i think you could crank it up to, but recoil does become an issue.
Eagle eye, looks like I could safely start at 62-64 grains, still trying to find concrete load data. What I have been doing is just drop down to 300wsm load data and with the larger caliber of the .323 I’d likely not run into pressure as a starting point.
 
So far h4350, 65.5 grains gave me 2900 and 67grain yielded 2940 not much hope reaching the numbers with that powder.
64grains of big game 2839 don’t think this will do it either.
For reference my 300wsm gave me 2920 in 20” barrel with 178 eldx with 65grains.
 
From what I can gather.. that is a very light mono for that cartridge... I don't think you can ever see the results you want with a projectile that light and shortening the barrel has probably made it very difficult to achieve appropriate velocities as well. You may be able to help yourself using a separate crimp die like the Lee FCD and putting a tighter crimp to get the powder to respond better.. I'm just throwing it out there.. Cheers and good luck.

I think your right. Bit of a dreamer here.
All considering this is a 500 yard cartridge at 3050 fps and a 540 yard cartridge at 3150
So should I settle on 3000fps it’s still a 480 yard rifle. That gives me 2000fps on impact.
Still a beauty short pack rifle.

Or go with a heavier bullet maybe.. You may get more velocity and will definitely get more distance bc and energy. If it's all about hunting then it should be about the first and second shot.. who cares about recoil at that point.. It's kinda like Thor's hammer anyway.. I'm not sure if you can even get the heavy mono's to stabilize in that length and twist.. That's just my brain trying to figure it out after looking up some of the data in my books.. as far as powder choice goes I think based on bullet weight, case design and barrel length. Superformance may hold some promise.. but I'm just spitballing with that based on information and discussions I've had with some guys that are way smarter than me. I'm a huge fan of the WSM case design and have made some pretty sweet loads for the 270wsm, 300wsm and 6.8wstrn. The 300wsm load is a 165gmx being pushed by Superformance and it's incredible in my buddies Tikka. It's always a rabbit hole.. Let us know what you come up with. Cheers
BTW I was told by a reasonably reliable reloader in the industry that two powders were specifically designed for the wsm case. Magpro and Superformance.. that was some time ago now and others have probably been added to the fold.
 
I had a moment to put this combo through a GRT parametric powder search.

I gave max pressure, min/max powder fill and min powder burnt.

The following are the top couple powders and their velocities. (Max charge weights included but NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LOADING SO PLEASE DO YOUR OWN DEVELOPMENT!)

ReloadSwiss RS60 3133.3 at 70.45gr (compressed)
Hodgson Lever Evolution 3095.8 at 65.01gr
Reloaded 17 3088.5 at 69.42gr
VV N550 3069.4 at 67.52gr

The next common powders are as follows:
VARGET 3040.5 at 62.95gr
Ramshot Tac 3036.8 at 63.09gr

Are these numbers considering a 20” barrel?

I do shoot 200 grains tsx at the moment, but im down to my last three bullets, they do shoot very well, but when something works can we really leave it alone?;) 160 grain ttsx will work like a charm on anything at reasonable hunting ranges.
I had a tikka 300wsm that shot lights out, best group was just under 7" at 950 yards. that was with the 200 grain eldx. i did since drop down to a tikka 3006 and it has yet to disappoint.
 
Tested big game powder a bit more, worked my way up to 69 grains it gave me 3053 fps.
for a short barrel I'm happy with that.
we will see if it gives me accuracy.
if not h4350 pretty much paralleled the velocity of big game. between the two we will find a winner.
