OK so here I am with my new Crazy 88 Mav'.

Now when I loop the cable lock through the action and through the feeding port on the belly should the action be left all the way open?

Or slightly closed?

My worry is having the fireing pin spring or some such item under pressure for no reason diring storage, and cause early wear out.

I suspect that the spring starts 'loading -up' when the action is in the slightly close position in stead of the open position, but I'm not sure.

What cha' think?

Good question! I use a master combination trigger lock on my 590 and it fits pretty good so I don't have any issue as I dryfire it before I store it.
I just looked at my action and by the time it's open enough for a cable to clear the shell lifter the gun is cocked so I don't think it really matters but I would leave it fully open if I was using a cable. -C.D.

Yah I'd hate to bend up the lifter parts with the cable...so leaving it open it is.

I'll try my extra Master combo lock on her tomorrow and see if I can make it dry fire.

From looking at diagrams, and My shotty I'm getting the feeling that it only becomes cocked when the action is slid forward into the closed action position...Is this correct?

The hammer is cocked when you pump to the rear - listen carefully you may hear it. But the trigger won't be able to operate until the breachblock is fully forward.

The firing pin spring is relaxed until the hammer hits it, then it compresses, allowing ignition, and then pulls back the pin and it's relaxed again.

Grouse Man, is right, as you pump rearward, the bolt "rides" over the hammer and "cocks" it... So, depending on where this happens in the rearward stroke, you may or may not be able to use a cable lock to store the shotgun in a "released" state... I'd go for a trigger lock if that's the case...

Cheers
