So a call from a good customer of ours made me decide it's time to start this exciting new project of ours...

...a brand new stainless steel barrel made from a Green Mountain blank. It will be threaded to fit into a CZ-858 receiver.

We just need to make drawings and off the blanks go to the CNC lathe to turn. Should be done in 2-3 weeks we hope and then we can start taking rifles in for barrel swaps. We are offering this for $550 which includes changing the status from restricted to non restricted if you need it.

So, stock up on the corrosive, we got you covered.

These will be more accurate for sure with the Green Mountain blanks but the key point is to change from Restricted to Non-restricted. Also being stainless you can shoot corrosive all day long and be none worse for the wear.

I wasn't aware of the advantage that stainless steel had over chromoly steel in regards to running corrosive.

Also, I'm not quite sure I understand the advantage to screwing on a new barrel to re-register a restricted CZ/VZ to non-restricted. If the main focus isn't accuracy, but rather the R to NR change, why spend the money for a restricted version and then drop another 500-600 dollars getting it re-barreled when you can buy a new NR?

I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, I think it's commendable that Dlask is offering this service.

I thought the barrels in the 858 were pressed into the receiver? I am not sure corrosive could be shot without issue. The bolt and gas system would still need to be cleaned, no?

it would all need to be cleaned still. but cleaning a stainless barrel with soapy water feels safer then cleaning a standard steel barrel in the same way.
and yes why thread the barrel and receiver to mount it?

You cannot change the barrels without some serious machinery. Think old communist steam driven machinery. The barrels are press fitted into the receivers and DO NOT come out easily. We have to machine them out on a mill.

As for changing the status, there are many people that have 858's which are restricted but would like to swap the status to NR. I'm not talking about the CSA rifles I'm talking about REAL 858's. We have been asked if we could re-barrel them so we came up with this method. The beauty is that the barrels can now be changed to any length or configuration because you can just unscrew it and screw in a new barrel. (Figuratively speaking, we would still need to make a new barrel)

As far as chrome lined vs. stainless goes, it's a no brainer, stainless wins. Yes, you will still need a shot of WD-40 into the gas piston after shooting corrosive but that's it.

People are passionate about the 858. We are passionate about the 858, that's why we are doing this. (And, just because we can. We rock.)

Ok now it makes more sense to me. To be honest, I never thought there would be a demand from restricted 858 owners to have them re-barreled. I guess the real appeal to me is improved accuracy. Also, it would be nice to see more calibres offered somewhere down the road - an accurate 858 in 6.5 Grendel would be amazing.
