I have a chance to purchase an early marlin 336 (the guy said 60s serial) with most of the bluing is gone .. But has aged nicely.. No pitting just nice patina ..it has the Williams peep installed and its in 30-30 what can I comfortably pay for it? The bore is fine.. The internals are great and bubba haven't got his paws on it in the past.

I got him a box of duke 32 40 and he was so pleased that he offered the gun to me at 150 ... I mean the peep has to be worth near that on its own does it? I think ill go pick the gun up tomorrow.. Thanks kamlooky

Ill get some when I get it. Maybe tomorrow afternoon .. The guy is 78 now.. I told him to email me some pictures and he asked me if that has something to do with a fax machine haha

Earlier than I thought ... Regular non micro grooved barrel, no D&T and its in way better shape than I originally thought... I'm satisfied

Just to confirm an "h" serial number would place it at 1951 correct ... I'm absolutely thrilled with this thing the more I get to looking at it, the bore is fantastic, the wood is like new, the only bad part is a small chip out of the but plate .. Now I know why guys always go on about the oldies (I have had a couple later 94s and a couple recently produced 336s) the craftsmanship and design in these old guns is crazy considering there was no cncing, no CAD ... Maybe some of our new gun makers need to pitch the. Computers and start building these like this again .

That's actually my next refinishing project.. It has some finish loss around the edges. I was going to get it done and jus pay but was quoted 4500 to redo it ... I can do the finish for under 300 bucks and a little time .. Time is free
