It’s true the CTR/Chassis route is likely a more customized and potentially cheaper solution. However the A1 also includes a two stage trigger that the CTR doesn’t. As a package it’s a nice rifle and a bit more Sako TRG ( Tikka is made by Sako) like with the two stage trigger. Also realize when doing cost analysis that the A1 is a nice solid folding chassis. The folding option cost more on most chassis. Once you buy the donor action, if you change the trigger and then a chassis with folder , you’re fairly close to the A1 cost. I bought mine years ago on sale. Back then it was cheaper to go with the A1. But at current prices, it’s a tougher buy today.
With regards to the KRG Bravo. I had one for a Tikka ctr project. In Sako green of course! I liked it. The design, balance, look and options. I did however find the rear plastic and cheek piece of the stock felt/looked a bit cheap. Ultimately I shelved the project. It was going to be a budget TRG essentially. Eventually I went TRG instead but that’s a different thread.
I have shot both KRG, MDT XRS and MDT chassis. The XRS actually felt better behind the rifle than the Bravo.but I still did like the Bravo! The MDT chassis was decent but the owner had weights on the front that didn’t work for me and put the balance off. But that was only one customized sample and I wouldn’t dismiss the MDT chassis over it. The Cadex chassis are nice but more tactical orientated. The paired down Cadex competition chassis I have on a 5R. I like it and it’s a consideration. I’m also a big fan of MPA for less tactical and more sport style rifles which I believe also makes a tikka chassis.
Years ago we had the option of a better than McMillan tactical fiberglass stock with the Robertson stocks. Those were awesome. Unfortunately not likely today.
I kept my A1 tactical. Resale value would be better than a semi customized rifle, I happen to like the chassis and the two stage trigger. It fills a nice spot. If you can find one for a good price, I would still consider it. Oh and the new MDT grnd pod with Mlok fits very nicely on that handguard!
