quick question about free floating a barrel

so last weekend i went to a very expensive high end wood shop and bought a very expensive 5x5' peice of furniture grade lamanate plywood to start my rifle stock winter project.

i have, probably a dumb question, but i think i should get some clarity before i spend $60 on a single router bit.

so in this build, i am thinking a #6 contour shilen barrel, which has a .750 (or 3/4) diameter. i'm looking at a 1" diameter router bit for the barrel inlet, in theory giving me 1/8th around the barrel, plenty enough to be free floating? and this is for a r700, so i'm just guessing the barrel is free floating to the barrel nut?

also, seeing as i'll only have roughly $150 all said and done invested into this stock when its complete, having it professionaly bedded will fix any little inaccuracies in the inletting?

sorry for the dumb questions, i inletted a stock for a savage 93r17 and it turned out really good, but i'm taking a bit more time and doing a bit more research for this one

any other helpful hints would be appreciated if anyone else has tackled a similar project.

your action is going to be a inch and three sixteenths of a inch in diameter (rem/sav) and at some point your barrel will have to taper to this diameter, or the taper of the barrel nut if your going that route.

But yes the barrel should be unobstructed from the front of the action forward....some people like to bed the chamber area of the barrel also.
