I am in middle of making a small reloading room and needed to know if the press needs a bench with a lip or can I make the front flush with the top ? i have no reloading gear at this moment

thanks

Justin

No lip. Make it flush and make sure that you have something solid to bolt the press to.

When I made my bench I made the frame with 2x4 but the front piece was a 4x4 to give me more meat to bolt to.

I am gonna have 2x4 that will be screw to 1/2 plywood and then it will be fastened to wall as I have a closse thats 3 foot deep and 4 wide ...I can have the bench fastened to wall studs on 3 sides ....thanks alot!!!

The bolt holes that fasten most presses are within 1-3 inches from the edge of the table. So you will have to be able to drill straight down though all of the bench top and have bolts long enough to reach the bottom.

sounds good!! I am limited on space but I think this should work great for my needs of a reloading bench and above that will have a gun rack

I assume you're making a frame of 2x4 and attaching it to the wall then putting plywood on top? I did this for a second small bench and put it in a corner then stuck a 2x4 leg on the outer corner. It has worked very well as a second bench for a press. Your plan sounds solid.

How I attached the press to this was the front bolts I used Lag bolts that went through the plywood and into the 2x4 (smaller predrilled hole) but not all the way through. On the back bolts that just went through plywood I used regular bolts and nuts/washers.

I have 2 pieces of 2 x 6, stacked on top of the other, which are bolted to my bench (2 places, near back and front edges) and then stick out about 3-4 inches beyond the edge of the bench. The press is bolted on to the part that protrudes. This raises the press (which I like), though it makes it protrude from the front of the bench (though I find that improves access). I admit it's overkill-- I think I would break the press before I detach it from the wood! My bench is held on to the wall with deck screws, so it makes for a very solid set up. Good luck!

right now I have a 26 inch x 4 foot 2x4 frame with 3 inch screws holding the back and both sides of the frame to walls....I put the frunt 2x4 on flat to the plywood so that i have more surface area to bold press to
