I just want to make sure before buying a take off stock about the action length.

Is there any difference between a long action standard cartridge, ie .270, 30/06 etc, and a long action magnum, ie .338 win mag? Barrel contours aside. Will a long action standard cartridge bolt into a long action magnum stock or vice versa?

From what I understand detachable mag 700's are different. You'll need to get another DM stock. You can't just change the bottom metal and go with a floor plate, or ADL style stock.

aftermarket parts? Who in their right mind would buy a rifle and try to modify it!???

Not this guy:p....any body want to buy a new take off walnut stock from a short action CDL SF??? I've got 2 for you to choose from :D JK, if I do decide to put them up forsale I'll post an add in the EE, I know this isn't the place for it. Besides the rifles are still on order ;)

As it happens, I was researching HS Precision stocks, to replace the stock on my soon to arrive 700 BDL with detach mag.

HS themselves tell me that the only stock they have for a 700 long action (magnum) with DM is model PSS 071. It is a sporter stock however, and does not have the close-radius pistol grip preferred by prone shooters.

Not sure if one of their other stocks can be modified for Rem DM. I forgot to ask that question! Maybe someone can add info on that.

Anyone know what model of Robertson or McM stock works with rem 700 LA DM?

What? The Tik Tac in .308 not good enough anymore?....nice to see you changing to something quality :p ha ha

I've been around buddy, just not posting a whole lot I guess...to many other know it all's get the answer out before I do:D

How have you been? Any plans on another Haggisfest this summer?

Just FYI, the 300wm, 338wm, etc are not long action magnums. A long action magnum would be a 7stw, 8mm RM, 300wby, 375H&H or 416 remington, or the like.

Oh I'm still running the Tikka. Gonna try for a bear with it this spring.... but I also wanted something a little bigger in a "true" hunting rifle, so I found a Rem in 300wm to play with.

I might be willing to part with the Tikka sometime soon, if I decide to go to a full-out custom rifle. My wallet is hearing the little voices from ATR........

No haggisfest this year, unless someone else can host it. As you may know, the new chateau popcan starts going up may 1 on the lot next door..

That'll be nice...a place to retire too in the future maybe?

I won't feel left out then, I wouldn't have been able to make it this summer.

I always take my time off from work in the fall, but I've thought so many times about taking vacation time in the summer and heading out that way, its such a beautiful place. Do you still have the rental? Or is there camp grounds near by? At some point in time I'll have to make the trip back there, spend some leisure time and soak things in a little more. A Haggisfest weekend, although a lot of fun, doesn't leave a lot of time to unwind...not with 50 hours of driving for a return trip anyway ;)

The rental cabin is gone, skidded it over to the neighbors' lot; in its place is where the new house is going.... and what used to be the "main cabin" will then become the part time rental. There's still the big Provincial campground at the end of the lake.
