quick question for 9mm and Unique

i recently bought some cheap for a friend and wanted to try it out to see what all the hype is about. their website says 5.8gr max load, so i went with a 5.4gr starting load with 124gr bullets.

when i put the powder in the case it looked almost like a double charge, but didn't measure as such. so my question is, is it a compressed load?

thanks for the info, it got compressed, but not a crazy amount, i will load some non compressed and at 5.4gr and see how it goes.
 
well my gun didn't blow up, but they sure were hot for being a starting load. On handloads.com there are some that suggest 6.2gr, but i don't even think it would fit!

With a upper load of Unique powder you need a barrel 5.6 inches long to burn 100% of the powder. With a 4 inch barrel you would get more muzzle blast and think you were shooting a hot load because of the unburnt powder.

My greatly reduced load in my .44 Magnum had more horse power and less muzzle blast than your 9mm Unique load, and all the powder was burnt in the first 2.4 inches of barrel length. ;)
