Quick question for experienced BC woodswalkers

Hi there,

I picked up my CORE book, going to start reading it soon, but a friend out east told me if I was serious about hunting I should start looking into where the provincial crown lands were. Does anyone here from BC (mainland preferably) know any good places where I can fire a rifle, hunt (maybe paper targets at first to practice my aim at ranges beyond the local firing range), legally and with little hassle from gun-hating locals? I did a search on crown land here but seemed not to find anything (unless I missed it).

Mission has a 300 yard range. Query Mission and District Rod and gun on google.

Most of BC is crown land. Someone out East would suggest you check that out as in the East it is mostly private.

Once you pass your CORE and read the regulations synopsis it'll start to make more sense.

Read the rules about fences, 100 metre distances from buildings, that kind of thing.
Most of the time you'll be deep in the bush if you're really hunting. If you're in the Cariboo-Chilcotin, be aware that you may think you're 200 miles in the bush but that there might be a ranch house around the corner.


For shooting practice I'd recommend you go to a proper range. Mission has a 300 yard range.

Around Likely its more like you are out hiking then bump into an active mining or logging site... nothing like stalking after a deer over a hill (trying to see if it was a buck or a doe) and having it see you and take off over the hill at a dead run right past a guy sitting there eating his lunch with his chainsaw beside him.... :redface:
 
Join a rod and Gun Club. The best way to put is the way a buddy of mine does " we are here with our own kind". The guys will help you with shooting as well as help you out with the hunting area problem. You also may gain a valuable hunting partener if you don't have one.

The opportunites are endless.
