quick question from a beginner

afternoon everyone!

so ive been picking up pieces and parts over the last couple years in preperation for me to finally starting to roll my own hunting and plinking loads.

i finally think im ready but i have one last quick simple question.

i want to go and load some 308 this week.
i want to make a 2 different things.
1) i want to make some range plinking ammo - mostly so i can break in my new STAG10.
2) i need to start making up a couple hunting load ladders for use with a couple rifles between myself and my dad.

so my question is this.
what powder should i pick up?
there are so many of them!!!!

what is a good quality generic powder that is a good starting powder???

IMR 4064, IMR 3031 and IMR 4895

i was at my local gun store today looking and they had so many jugs of powder i didnt know where to start.

also, i have a list of hunting bullets but what is a good quality but cheaper bullet i could get for range plinking?
feel silly blowing 100-200 rounds down the range for a break in of my STAG using hunting loads.

also have a couple bolt action 308's that need breaking in.

so anyways my question stands, whats a good starting powder for a new reloader to get started with.

Absolutely cannot go wrong with Varget or 4064, I have used both extensively and they work great, with the accuracy edge slightly to Varget.

Also, hopefully you have a good reloading manual because it obviously will list various recommended powders for .308 and various charge weights. As well, other recommendations/guidance on other reloading procedures/components ie. Brass prep, COAL, primers, etc.

Canada Ammo has their D4895 in 5lb jugs. Great price too.

RL-15 is excellent and meter well.

The Hornady 150 gr FMJ is a good cheap bullet.

I've only tried the D4064SSC in .223, but no reason it shouldn't work in .308 as well.
