ok i did a quick look and i didnt see this question asked. please dont waist time flaming me. would the reciever cover on a 858 be strong enough to tap to mount a rail? i figure it probably isnt a good idea but i wanted to ask. thanks in advance to all with advice.

If you want to play you gotta pay, the cz is not really an optic optimized rifle out of the box at all, plus I love the irons on it. You could also try that side mount stuff not sure how well they work though.

Hey Nate. I use the nea handguard they are relatively cheap. Works great for a red dot

I currently have the nea hand guard with a red dot mounted on it and I'm not impressed its just to far forward for my liking I had the same sort of set up on my mini 14 and it was the same thing. The sight picture is just to small for my liking.

Ok if you want to hold zero without any compromise you need a sidemount, drilled and tapped on the side, nothing at all touching the dust cover or any piece whatsoever that can be removed and moved around during cleaning without a hex key and some considerable wrist strength.
They go for about 100$, and you need a gunsmith to do the work.

I had the M4 stock converter with a built in rail from NEA with a cantilever mount. it seemed to hold zero well for what I needed it for.
