I am going to be mounting my Tasco varmint scope on my M4 for the time being. I was wondering if high rings will clear the front sight on my rifle. It is a flat top Norinco M4 and my plan was to just put some high rings on and mount the scope. I don't really have the money for a riser right now so will they be high enough? What brands would you suggest for rings. Doesn't have to be anything fancy just solid. They will only be used on this rifle so they don't need to be 100 rings as a 223 isn't too bad on recoil. I would just use my redfields off my 22-250 but they are too low. Thanks

Thanks however I am going to a small shop today Malloys Erie Track so the selection will be limited to brands like Weaver, Redfield, the basic brands. I want to support the local guy with this one. If I was ordering several things I would consider getting rings online but shipping just for rings isnt worth it. Again that you for your response.

Also will regular High rings be high enough?

If I was working with limited funds I would use high Leupold QRW quick release rings.
You say you are mounting a varmint scope so why try to clear the top of the front sight, you won't see it with the magnification you have.

Thats an excellent point so the scope will take the sight out of the picture when focusing on longer distance. That helps alot. I will just pick up some high rings then. Thanks again.

I mounted my scope on the carry handle.

FYI, Leupold Super High rings cleared the FSP of my C8. As someone already mentioned, with a bit of magnification, it will focus past the sight. However, if you have someone that dials down to say 1x like the Nightforce 1-4 I used, it's critical it is mounted above the FSP to be used at all.

I bought some Millet High Rings and I must say they don't look like they are going to work. I will put the scope on and see what happens. 30mm rings and super high rings are out of the question for the scope I am using as it has a 1" tube. I don't think I will be able to return these so I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and purchase a riser and use the high rings as I don't even know if the scope is going to sit on the gun with the forend being so fat. But I will get my scope from my buddies house today and try it out anyways. Thanks to the few people who tried but I guess the only way to learn is my making mistakes yourself.

Would this...

...with a 1x~3x scope be unusable due to the FSH? This is what I was doing, but now may have to re-think things based on replies.
I think I known the answer :(

Damn, chop the front sight and forget about backups or go with super high rings... ugh

~Cheers

I think I am just gonna go with a riser. I really like the Millet rings. Not that they are anything special but I like the style of them and risers are pretty cheap. My dad has a mill and he was saying he could build be a riser pretty easily so if that comes about I will post pics. Thanks again for the help. Take Care
